Top Russian Nonproliferation Expert Joins CNSThe James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Monterey Institute of International Studies is pleased to announce that Dr. Alexander Pikayev had joined the Center's pool of senior analysts. He will provide expert commentary from Moscow and participate in a number of educational and outreach activities in the Newly Independent States as CNS Nonproliferation Project Head in Russia. Dr. Alexander Pikayev is Director of the Department for Disarmament and Conflict Resolution at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) in Moscow. Before his appointment at IMEMO, he served for 7 years as co-chair of the WMD Nonproliferation Program at the Carnegie Moscow Center. He also worked at the Russian Duma Defense Committee as a senior professional staff member. Dr. Pikayev is an internationally recognized expert on WMD disarmament and nonproliferation, and is one of the most frequently cited Russian experts in the field. He serves as a board member of a number of Russian and international NGOs. Dr. Pikayev has authored and edited more than a hundred publications. He has addressed many prestigious fora and audiences, including the Russian Duma, U.S. Congress, German Bundestag, UK Parliament, and NATO Parliamentary Assembly. His most recent book is Nonproliferation Deadlocks: North Korea and Iran (forthcoming). Dr. Pikayev has been engaged in the Center's activities for over a decade and a half. His articles have appeared in the Center's Nonproliferation Review and he has spoken at numerous conferences hosted by CNS. In 1994 and 1995 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Center. |
