CNS Announces First Alexander Pikayev Scholarship AwardMargarita Zolotova was selected as this year's awardee.
CNS is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Alexander Pikayev Memorial Scholarship, established in 2010 to support students from Russia who are pursuing graduate level studies in nonproliferation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Margarita Zolotova, a Yaroslavl, Russia native and second-year student in the Institute's Master of Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies Program was selected as this year's awardee. Ms. Zolotova holds degrees in management and political science from Yaroslavl State University and formerly worked as a reporter, editor, and TV host in Russia. A specialist on mass media, she created online tools and resources for political campaigns in Russia and developed business plans for ecommerce companies. Ms. Zolotova was selected to work as an intern at the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs in New York City during the spring 2011 semester. CNS established the Pikayev Scholarship in honor of the Center's long-time colleague, Dr. Alexander "Sasha" Pikayev, who passed away suddenly in June 2010.
