The Road to 2015: The 2013 PrepComOn October 27, 2012, CNS and the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations co-hosted a roundtable discussion.
On October 27, 2012, the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies and the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations co-hosted a roundtable discussion on the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) entitled "The Road to 2015: The 2013 PrepCom." The event, which took place at the Permanent Mission of Indonesia in New York, NY, provided the participants with a forum to take stock of developments since the first Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) meeting in Vienna in 2012. Additionally, it provided an opportunity for these key decision-makers to identify priority issues to be taken up at the 2013 PrepCom, which is scheduled to be held in April 2013 in Geneva. The meeting's attendees included high-level officials from seventeen countries as well as UN offices and non-governmental organizations. The discussion touched upon many issues of key importance to the NPT, including the status of implementation of the Action Plan adopted in 2010, the role of the second PrepCom in the treaty review process, and the humanitarian dimension of nuclear disarmament. Participants also discussed the proposed Conference on a WMD-Free Zone in the Middle East. Learn MoreNPT Resources
