CNS Student Awarded PIR Center PrizeMonterey Institute student Nikita Perfilyev was awarded the special prize "New Talent in Nonproliferation" by the Russian Center for Policy Studies (PIR Center) on July 3, 2009. In addition to studying nonproliferation at the Institute with the support of a Fulbright fellowship, Nikita is a research assistant at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. Since coming to the Center, Nikita has written on START negotiations and engaging Russia and China in disarmament. He has also been named a Nuclear Scholar by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and is currently participating in the CSIS Project on Nuclear Issues. Before coming to Monterey, Perfilyev worked for the PIR Center in Moscow as a researcher and editor (2007-08). During the fall of 2006, he was an intern at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, under the sponsorship of Washington Group International. His articles have been published in Security Index and on the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Nuclear Threat Initiative websites. He graduated with distinction from Tomsk State University in 2007. |
