TRAINING ACTIVITIES
U.N. Disarmament Fellows Program
The purpose of the U.N. Program of Fellowships on Disarmament is to train national
officials of Member States, particularly developing nations, on issues of nonproliferation
and disarmament and to empower them with the skills to effectively take part in
international deliberations and negotiating fora. The Program is administered by
the U.N. Department for Disarmament Affairs, under the direction of Under Secretary
General Jayantha Dhanapala.
The Monterey Institute's Center for Nonproliferation Studies sponsors the
Washington, D.C. portion of the Program. The Washington office sets up meetings
and seminars with U.S. government officials and non-governmental experts in order
to provided the Fellows with an opportunity to become acquainted with U.S. policy
and research work in the field of nonproliferation, arms control, and disarmament.
Washington Intensive Nonproliferation Seminars (WINS)
Program
WINS is a 10-day program that introduces foreign government officials, military
officers, researchers, and jounalists to nonproliferation and arms control issues as
they pertain to the U.S. In collaboration with
the East Asia
Nonproliferation Project and the Newly
Independent States Nonproliferation Project, the Washington office hosts
delegations from China and the Newly Independent States for meetings with U.S.
government officials, non-governmental experts, members of the Congress, congressional
staff, and journalists.
Washington, D.C. Nonproliferation Internships
The Washington, D.C. Office is looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals
to participate in its Internship Program. Several interns are selected to work at
the Center for up to five months each Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall semester.
