It is crucial that the international community not accept India and Pakistan as nuclear weapon states and not reward them politically for raising their nuclear profiles in order to preserve nuclear non-proliferation regime. The author identifies China and the United States as key players influencing the climate for peace and restraint in South Asia. Thus, increasing Sino-U.S. cooperation will not only be beneficial, but also crucial to the addressing this issue.
