Yadernoe Nerasprostranenie (Nuclear Nonproliferation)
Yadernoe Nerasprostranenie (Nuclear Nonproliferation) is a
college-level Russian-language textbook, which covers all aspects of the
international regime involved with the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. This
two-volume second edition includes a thoroughly revised and updated first
edition as the first volume (edited by Vladimir Orlov, Director of the PIR
Center and Nikolai Sokov,
a Senior Research Associate at CNS) and a new, second volume, which includes
collection of key documents relating to nuclear nonproliferation (assembled by
Ildar Akhtamzyan, an associate professor at Moscow State Institute (University)
of International Relations). Published in 2000, the first, one-volume edition of
the textbook quickly became a best-selling text in the field.
The two-volume
textbook written by a panel of experts covers every possible aspect of the
nuclear nonproliferation regime: the history of the development of nuclear
weapons and the technical aspects of the nonproliferation regime; a discussion
of the origins of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)
and the international organizations related to it; national nuclear programs,
including those of threshold states; the history of bilateral and multilateral
arms control negotiations; an explanation of export controls; and new challenges
to the nonproliferation regime, including those that have emerged after
September 11, 2001. The second volume contains all relevant international
documents, starting with the NPT and including Russian laws and decrees.
The
textbook is intended primarily for Russian-speaking college students, as well as
students in master and doctoral programs. At the same time, it is so
comprehensive that it can be used by experts within the government or in
non-governmental organizations.
