Dr. Sungtack Shin is a distinguished visiting scholar and specialist in North Korean WMD at the East Asia Nonproliferation Program. He has a doctorate in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and a master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle. He recently retired from the South Korean Army as colonel. He was a Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA) for fourteen years where he directed a research program North Korean WMD and ballistic missiles.
