WMD 411

CNS created and maintains WMD 411, an information resource on the threats from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and a range of policy options to reduce these threats. This resource is a part of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI).

• WMD Country Profiles
  Provides comprehensive and timely information on the nuclear, chemical, biological, and missile infrastructures and nonproliferation policies of many countries.

• Nuclear Disarmament
  Factual information on nuclear weapon proliferation since 1945 including a comparative chart showing the number of nuclear warheads and related systems that have been dismantled and destroyed by all states currently armed with nuclear weapons, as well as those who gave up or destroyed their nuclear weapons arsenals. In addition, the database includes a useful compilation of national proposals related to nuclear disarmament made in the context of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) review process since 2005.
• HEU Reduction and Elimination
  Provides an overview of the threat posed by highly enriched uranium, examines civilian use of HEU, and assesses past and current efforts to reduce and eliminate the civilian use of HEU. The database includes an interactive map showing civilian HEU stocks. Maintained by the NIS Nonproliferation Program (NISNP).
• Submarine Proliferation
  Tracks international proliferation of submarines, their regional security implications, and their role as delivery systems for WMD. Organized by country, it provides domestic submarine capability information and import/export behavior for over a dozen countries. Maintained by the NIS Nonproliferation Program (NISNP).
• NIS Trafficking
  Highlights proliferation-significant cases of nuclear materials diversion and includes abstracts on all reported instances of trafficking in nuclear and radioactive materials in or from the Newly Independent States. Maintained by the NIS Nonproliferation Program (NISNP).
• Inventory of International Nonproliferation Organizations and Regimes
  A regularly-updated public reference covering all international organizations, treaties, and agreements relevant to WMD disarmament & nonproliferation. It provides descriptions and summaries of organizations, treaties & agreements, recent activities, and contact information. Maintained by the International Organizations Nonproliferation Program (IONP).
• ChemBio Weapons and WMD Terrorism Database
  An archive of a twice weekly email with links to and key excerpts from articles and other resources about chemical and biological weapons and terrorism involving weapons of mass destruction. This database contains the abstracts from these e-mails with links to the original items. To subscribe to the e-mail service, contact chembio-terror@miis.edu with the subject heading "subscribe" and your e-mail address in the message body.

Thanks to a grant from the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), CNS has made its databases available to the public as part of the NTI Research Library on http://www.nti.org/.

The CNS proliferation databases contain information compiled from hundreds of source publications, including United Nations and International Atomic Energy Agency documents, trade journals, government and defense publications, periodicals and electronic news sources, academic journals, U.S. congressional testimony, conference proceedings, book chapters, correspondence from international advisors, unpublished papers, and Internet sources. These databases contain continually updated information about the global proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical, and biological) and their delivery systems.
