Senior Research Associate

The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) invites applications for a senior research associate dealing with the Newly Independent States (NIS) nonproliferation issues. This position will entail research, analysis, and writing on nonproliferation and related security issues involving both state and non-state actors. This is an full-time, exempt staff position.

  • Conduct research projects in the area of proliferation and other topics relevant to nonproliferation issues in Russia and other post-Soviet states.
  • Monitor, analyze, and provide commentary on key WMD nonproliferation issues in the region.
  • Participate, initiate and when required lead ongoing and new Center-wide projects on nonproliferation in the NIS.
  • Prepare grant proposals and reports as needed.
  • Publish articles and op-eds on nonproliferation issues.
  • Present research results at conferences and workshops.

2010 CNS Postdoctoral/Sabbatical Fellowship

Priority application deadline is March 1, 2010.

During his/her year in residence, the fellow will be expected to: (1) publish a significant work in the field of nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons proliferation/terrorism or related field; (2) contribute to ongoing research and programmatic activities at CNS; and (3) lecture in his/her area of specialty.

  • Conduct proliferation research projects and prepare a manuscript for publication.
  • Publish nonproliferation articles and op-eds.
  • Give lectures on nonproliferation topics to visiting fellows, interns, and others.
  • Assist with ongoing Center-wide projects.
  • Present research at conferences and workshops.

Director, Newly Independent States Nonproliferation Program (NISNP)

The NISNP Director at CNS organizes and oversees the research, publication, and programmatic activities of the program. She/he also supervises the work of program staff members and the fulfillment of program deliverables under NISNP and CNS-wide grants and contracts.

  • Write grant proposals, and supervise all grant and contract activities, budgets, and reporting.
  • Supervise NISNP personnel and related tasks, and conduct staff meetings.
  • Manage NISNP activities, including databases, and educational and community-building projects and activities in Russian.
  • Conduct research and write on NIS WMD and nonpoliferation issues; participate in and organize conferences and seminars.
  • Handle NIS-related media inquiries.

Professor - Nonproliferation Studies

The Graduate School of International Policy and Management at the Monterey Institute of International Studies invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Nonproliferation Studies.

In addition to a faculty appointment, the opportunity exists for an affiliation with the Monterey Institute's James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. The position is available at all ranks, but applicants should have teaching experience and a record of scholarly publication in the area of weapons of mass destruction and means for their control.
