Dr. Sharad Joshi

Dr. Sharad Joshi, Research Associate, MonTREP

Dr. Sharad Joshi is an assistant professor in the Graduate School of International Policy & Management (GSIPM) at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. His research involves various facets of international security studies, especially terrorism, insurgency, conflict, and nuclear proliferation matters in South Asia. He joined the Monterey Institute as a postdoctoral fellow at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) from Sept. 2006 to Oct. 2008. Dr. Joshi has also served as a research associate at CNS and the institute's Monterey Terrorism Research & Education Program. He holds a PhD from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh.

At GSIPM, Dr. Joshi teaches courses on research methods, terrorism in South Asia and South-East Asia, and weapons of mass destruction issues in South Asia. He has worked as a visiting fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (Summer 2005), New Delhi, and adjunct instructor at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh (Summer 2006). He has also carried out consulting work on terrorism financing, and nonproliferation issues in South Asia.

Dr. Joshi earned a Master's degree in Politics (specialization in International Relations) from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He also holds a certificate in Asian Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and briefly worked as a journalist for India Abroad newspaper.
