Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, Research Associate

Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova is a research associate, currently working on the Proliferation Trends and Trigger Events project at CNS.

Prior to becoming a full-time staff, Gaukhar worked at CNS as a graduate research assistant, focusing on nuclear nonproliferation issues in the NIS, reform of Russian nuclear industry and implementation of UNSC Resolution 1540 in Central Asia and Caucasus. She has contributed to the International Export Control Observer, NTI issue briefs and CNS research stories. Gaukhar has also interned at the UN Department for Disarmament Affairs in New York. Prior to coming to Monterey, she was Media and Outreach Specialist at the UN Development Programme in Kazakhstan.

Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova received her MA in International Policy Studies, with distinction, from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (2007) and BA in Journalism/Mass Communication, Cum Laude, from the American University in Bulgaria (2001). She is originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan.
