CNS and VCDNP Scholars Provide Insights on 2011 IAEA General Conference

In the lead up to this month's General Conference, CNS and VCDNP have prepared a series of Fact Sheets on the key issues that will be discussed.

On September 19-23, 2011, representatives of 151 Member States will gather in Vienna, Austria, for the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) 55th General Conference (GC). Their deliberations may touch on a number of controversial issues including: capabilities related to Israel's unacknowledged nuclear weapons program; North Korea's failure to abide by its nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty obligations; global safety and security standards after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant; and how to allocate the Agency's budget.

Experts at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) have created a series of Fact Sheets on the key issues that will be discussed at the GC. Each contains relevant background information, current developments, and reference documents. The topics presented are:
