Country Profile: Trinidad and Tobago

BASIC FACTS

Trinidad and Tobagois a Member Country of the NAM Movement since 1970 

Officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidad and Tobagoisa parliamentary republic islandsituated in the Caribbean, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. 

Capital: Port of Spain

Trinidad and Tobago does not currently operate any nuclear power plants but operates facilities that conducts ionizing radiation activities for use in the medical and industrial sectors.To prevent radiological risks, Trinidad and Tobago has implemented the Ionizing Radiation Protection and Security Bill in 2016, which incorporates protections related to the health and safety of all operations and personnel exposed to radiological materials. In 2022, Trinidad and Tobago started drafting its national nuclear law administer and oversee all nuclear-related regulations.Trinidad and Tobagohas also engaged in IAEA-led technical workshops to enhance nuclear and radiological safety for Latin American and Caribbean countries.  

Trinidad and Tobago has signed, ratified, and enforced the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in September of 2019, September of 2019, and January of 2021, respectively.
