BASIC FACTS
United Arab Emirates is a Member Country of the NAM Movement since 1973
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a constitutional monarchy and federation of seven emirates located on the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Saudi Arabia and Oman. The vast majority of its population are expatriates, drawn by one of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world and consequentlya relatively strong economy.

The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is the first such plant on the Arabian Peninsula. The Barakah plant contains four pressurizedAPR1400 water reactors.The first reactor's grid connection occurred in 2020 and the fourth became fully operational in 2024. The four reactors are expected to produce some 5600MW of power and supply up to 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs.The power plant is the result of a contract between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Korea Electric Power Corporation, concluded in 2009.
