Country Profile: Benin

BASIC FACTS

The Republic of Benin is located in West Africa and is bordered by Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Togo. After gaining independence from France in 1960, Benin has experienced multiple coups between democratic and military governments. Since 1991 it has been a presidential, multi-party democratic republic.

Capital: Porto-Novo

There are no nuclear power plants or research reactors in Benin.
