The Dominican Republicis a Member Country of the NAM Movement since 2000

Officially the Dominican Republic, the Dominicanis a presidential republicsituated in the Caribbean, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Capital: Santo Domingo

The Dominican Republic does not currently operate any nuclear power plants but engages is close technical cooperation with the IAEA. Under theIAEA’s robust technical cooperation framework “Atoms for Peace and Development, the Dominican Republic has achievement notable progress in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy, primarily in the public sector, rendering the country remarkable radiological-based infrastructure, such as:an advanced diagnostic imaging center for non-communicable diseases;agricultural areas utilizing advanced techniques for improving quality crops; and storage facilities for disused radioactive sources, among others. With IAEA support, the Dominican Republic is a leading nationleveraging nuclear applications to strengthen its public infrastructure while also prioritizing radiation safety and nuclear security. 

The Dominican Republic has signed, ratified, and enforced the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in September of 2017, January of 2018, and January of 2021, respectively.
