BASIC FACTS

Ecuador is a Member Country of the NAM Movement since 1983 

Officially the Republic of Ecuador, Ecuadoris a presidential republicsituated in Western South America, bordering the Pacific Ocean.

Capital: Quito

Ecuador does not currently operate any nuclear power plants but is a strong partner in the IAEA in developing expertise to strengthen the security of nuclear-related activities surrounding the regionIn2018, Ecuador participated in IAEA-led advisory missions in which radiological regulatory frameworks were adopted and implemented according to the priorities of several stakeholders, such as the Ministry for Electricity and Renewable Energy. In Ecuador, radiological materials are used for medical applications, and together with the IAEA, Ecuadorian national authorities ensure that disused radioactive sources are properly managed. Ecuador has enjoyed strong technical partnerships from the IAEA for leveraging the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the country’s public infrastructures.
