BASIC FACTS
The Republic of Ghana is located on the Gulf of Guinea in western Africa. Ghana is bordered to the east by Togo, to the northwest by Burkina Faso, and to the west by Cote D’Ivoire; it has access to the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Ghana is a presidential representative democratic republic that gained independence in 1957.

Currently Ghana does not have any operational nuclear power plants.
Ghana has one nuclear research reactor (GHARR-1) located in Accra, which reached its first criticality in 1994 and is mainly used for neutron activation analysis, education and training. In 2017 it completed the conversion of research reactor fuel from high enriched uranium (HEU) to low enriched uranium (LEU).
