Country Profile: Mozambique

BASIC FACTS

The Republic of Mozambique is located on the southeast coast of Africa. Mozambique borders Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia to the north, Zimbabwe to the west, South Africa and Swaziland to the south. Mozambique is a constitutional democracy with a parliamentary system that gained its independence in 1975.

Capital: Maputo

Mozambique does not possess any nuclear power plants, research reactors, or other nuclear facilities.

In the 1950s Mozambique produced uranium from its Mavuzi mine, located in northwestern Mozambique. In 2005-2006, an Australian group conducted an exploration project and a small drill program in 2007.
