BASIC FACTS
Nicaragua is a Member Country of the NAM Movement since 1979
Officially the Republic of Nicaragua, Nicaraguais a presidential republicsituated in Central America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean.
Capital: Managua
Nicaragua does not currently operate any nuclear power plants, butit has recently been reported that the country has signed a scientificcooperation agreement with Russia’s Rosatom, in pursuit of developing nuclear infrastructure for its peaceful uses in the industry, agriculture, and health sectors. The technical cooperation agreement, signed by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) aims to build a nuclear medicine center in Nicaragua to offer oncology diagnosis and treatment to patients.
Nicaragua has signed, ratified, and enforced the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in September of 2017, July of 2018, and January of 2021, respectively.
