BASIC FACTS

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is situated in West Africa and bordered by Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and a democratic secular state since it gained independence in 1960.

Capital: Abuja

There are no nuclear power plants located in Nigeria.

The Centre for Energy Research and Training operates one MNSR-type research reactor (NIRR-1) used for isotope production, research, education & training. NIRR-1 converted to LEU fuel in November 2018. An additional pool-type, multipurpose research reactor began planning stages of development in 2015, although no further progress has been reported.
